Beth Phoenix Retains WWE Championship
: October 6th, 2008
Finally, in what many people were eagerly awaiting, the rematch between current WWE Women’s champ Beth Phoenix and former champ Candice Michelle took place. The only difference was that Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella was at the Glamazon’s corner that surely made a difference as far as momentum was concerned.
But not to take anything from Phoenix, she showed the same dominance that made her champion in the first place. Knowing she had a decisive edge over the injury prone Candice Michelle, she went to work on the shoulders that softened up the former champion all the more. The only good thing that came out of it all was that she did not come out injured again, something familiar on several occasions where both divas met.
No Mercy may be over but don’t expect this to end just yet. I have a feeling that there will be another match between the two unless a new diva is being groomed to challenge Phoenix.
It is obvious that the WWE has shown disappointment over Candice from recent shows and that may have a bearing on why she was not properly pushed for the new title reign. While many fans are hoping for Candice Michelle to be back on top, it is apparently not yet the time for it.
Unless they sever their ties, it seems that Candice will have to work her way back to the top, not only in the ring but also through the WWE board as far as getting their nod for approval.
