Just when you thought that Beth Phoenix was perhaps one of the fiercest divas to ever step on the ring, it seems that it only takes an Italian in the person of Santino Marella to tame a wild phoenix. This is what sums it all up during her last match when she lost in a non-title match against RAW upstart Kelly Kelly thanks to distractions by the current WWE Intercontinental Champion.

After the match, Phoenix stormed out and was furious at Marella and while it seemed that during his match-up with former champion Kofi Kingston would be a form of payback, they ended up kissing at the end of the match thanks to the charms of the Italian champion.

What gives here? Obviously it is a storyline but isn’t it killing the reputation of Beth Phoenix? While it does look good as far as a story for the WWE, career wise, it is like sucking up a lot of things that can eventually ruin your character and reputation. Gone is the fierce and intimidating force that perhaps even Lillian Garcia can defeat.

The best thing to evaluate these things is due to buying time as to who will be the next Women’s champion. It seems likely that Phoenix will become an Intercontinental Champion and from the looks of it, Marella is the sacrificial lamb. It may seem sheepish at this point but from all indications, there is no other way to assess the situation as to why Phoenix is accepting the turn of events.
