Winner Take All Match With the Women’s Belt
: August 4th, 2008
Just when I was counting out Beth Phoenix from the fray, she suddenly comes out of nowhere to attack WWE Women’s champion Mickie James with new ally Santino Marella. After mayhem broke loose and Kofi Kingston joined the mix, it was announced that there will be a winner take all match at summer slam that has put the Intercontinental Champion and the Women’s belt on the line.
Ironically, Marella is a former champion just like Phoenix, once holding the Intercontinental championship. But if you evaluate the match up, it is pretty much even. Kingston obviously has the edge over Marella while Phoenix has a slight edge due to her strength and power. So come SummerSlam, two gold will be up for one team and it doesn’t get any bigger than that.
So if you recall from the past weeks, it seems that the rivalry between Marella and Phoenix has been deemed as a setup all along to at least rev up Phoenix for another crack at the title. Marella being considered as a contender appears more of the sidelight as there is really nothing traceable as far as the rivalry between Kingston and Marella is concerned.
All eyes will be on the divas and surely they will get more of the action come SummerSlam. This match promises to be a slam bang affair but it seems highly improbable that any title change will ensue. From all indications, it looks like a victory for James and Kingston, at least for now.
