The injury bug once again strikes in the WWE and this time, it is Melina Perez who has been sidelined. Perfect timing! Just when her heated rivalry with former women’s champion Beth Phoenix is shaping up, again another adversary of the Phoenix goes down. Coincidence? Remember Candice Michelle?

But unlike Candice Michelle, Melina’s injury was minor in nature although many claimed it was a severe ankle injury. This happened during the inter-brand match up where Melina teamed up with Women’s Champion Mickie James and squared off against SMACKDOWN’s Natalya Neidhart and Victoria. At stake were draft picks which was ultimately shared.

So Phoenix wasn’t there after all. But it would be interesting to note how the glamazon would comment on this injury since at the moment, focus is obviously not on the WWE women’s championship. Further, no diva has been drafted yet and anything can happen prior to SMACKDOWN.

Melina is a tough cookie. While the injury was categorized as severe, you can see Melina holding her own on it. From the looks of it, she does not want to be sidelined and want to perform against Beth Phoenix once permitted. This storyline rivalry is simply something for the books.

So assuming that Melina is forced to rest on her injured ankle, where does this leave Beth Phoenix? Will she make a run at Mickie James’ belt? Remember though that she has to wait a bit as Katie Lee Burchill is the one who will be challenging James. This is something we got to see.
