In an announcement that has been long overdue, SMACKDOWN Vickie Guerrero finally let the cat out of the bag when she announced a new title for the SMACKDOWN brand, the Divas Championship. As you all know, the one and only WWE women’s title is over at RAW and is currently held by Mickie James. For some time now, you have to wonder, how come SMACKDOWN did not have any title for the women’s division for the divas they have.

So now that it has all been set, aspiring candidates for the title include:
1. Michelle McCool
2. Cherry
3. Kelly Kelly
4. Victoria
5. Natalya Neidhart
6. Maryse
7. Layla

Not a bad bunch of divas if you look at it and at least they now have something to look forward to as far as their careers are concerned. But you have to wonder if that is the final list of competing divas. Remember that the WWE draft will be held soon and divas are included in the mix.

For all you know, RAW stars such as Beth Phoenix, Melina Perez or Candice Michelle may soon find themselves under the SMACKDOWN brand. Notable among them is that they are all former WWE Women’s champions so you have to be open to that thought.

While the new title has been confirmed, the list of protagonists is far from over. After the draft has commenced, then perhaps we can see who the real participants to the gold will be and who will be the first to be crowned WWE Divas Champion.
