Phoenix Comes out of Battle Smoke
: April 28th, 2008
At Backlash, 12 divas were battling out to see who would once again challenge current WWE champion Mickie James. There were a lot of favorites here, both face and heel wrestlers. But in the end, Beth Phoenix came out as expected, using brain and some assistance from the other heel wrestlers in making her the number one contender to the WWE women’s belt.
Like it or not, the rematch was destined and expected. Phoenix rightfully owns that rematch clause and had we seen a different winner, chances are we may be seeing a three way match for the championship belt.
So it seems that this brewing rivalry is reaching a climax of sorts but expect it to be a humdinger of a match as Mickie James wants to prove that her win was not pure luck. She will be out to prove why she is a veteran women’s champion and for all intents and purposes, Phoenix should not be overconfident of her.
Mickie knows how to pull out the stops. She has been there and she knows that she has to put in all that she can to make sure that she clings on to that championship. Phoenix on the other hand is sure to use her size and power to try and reclaim the richest prize in the women’s division, something she claims to have been her fault on why James is holding it at the moment.
