In previous blog entries I have always questioned the WWE’s plans, or apparent lack thereof, for WWE Diva Search winner Layla El. I found this quite unfortunate because Layla has a great personality that is quite perfect for the wrestling world. She is perky, very optimistic looking and quite a firecracker when in front of the cameras – that is on top of the fact that she is very, very sexy and is quite sultry, which is another important qualification of being a diva.I have noticed that over the last few weeks, it looked like the runner up in the WWE Diva Search contest that Layla won is actually getting more attention. Maryse Ouellet was being pushed more in terms of promos and screen time in Smackdown (the brand in which Layla and Maryse are both part of).

I was hoping that Layla will be given more attention and a decent push because she really deserves it, not just because she won the Diva Search but because she really has something that fans will respond to positively.

Now it seems that Layla will be given the push that she needs – but in a very different brand. It was announced that Layla will be moving on to ECW to beef up its female roster in the said brand. Although I am glad that Layla has been given attention at long last I have to say that I also have my own reservations. Layla’s bubbly personality seems ill fit to the more extreme environment of ECW. Kelly Kelly may not be menacing in ECW but her character is still within the general milieu of ECW (a stripper). I do hope that Layla will be able shine in this new environment and show WWE management that she’s the real deal.
